Dawson ends Hopkins via twelve round majority decision – Boxing News
Finally, Chad Dawson got the chance to prove his mettle against Bernard Hopkins. As promised, ‘Bad’ Chad Dawson made it to the mark by defeating Bernard ‘The Executioner’ Hopkins via a 12-round majority decision. The fight that was held at the Boardwalk
Hall in Atlantic City had Chad Dawson dominating the oldest world champion Hopkins.
Even though Dawson suffered a severe left eye cut in the fourth round by Hopkins headbutt, he continued to give his best and finally achieved the feat. Dawson, who was seen fighting in his traditional ‘wrestling’ style, finally had to give up the title to
Dawson’s domination. During round eight, Dawson suffered another severe cut over his right eye by Hopkins’ ferocious punch. However, throughout the fight, Dawson ensured not to let Hopkins get out of the grip. Dawson kept Hopkins in close range, which helped
in making the 47-year-old champion weaker and weaker with time.
Final scores of the fight were 117-111, 117-111 and 114-114. After the fight, Hopkins was completely dismantled and he refused to talk to reporters or even give an interview. On the other hand, the now WBC light heavyweight champion Dawson challenged the
current super middleweight champion Andre Ward for a fight at a catchweight or light heavyweight.
Even though Hopkins used objectionable techniques during the fight, Dawson made it a mark to appreciate the future Hall of Famer for his efforts. After the fight, Dawson said, “My head is hurting from all the head-butts. I've got to give him a lot of credit.
He's a future Hall of Famer, he's a h**l of a fighter. But he's a dirty fighter. But if you can get through 12 rounds with him, you can get through anything."
For now, Hopkins seems pretty devastated with whatever happened. The lead up to the match was pretty severe and Dawson had left no stone unturned to disgrace Hopkins. On the other hand, Hopkins had kept his cool believing that he will show Dawson in the
ring who the real fighter is. However, now, it seems like Dawson has proved he is the better man and, as promised, maybe Hopkins will run into retirement anytime soon.
