Tottenham Hotspur defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in midweek and was happy to get his first Premier League start under Andre Villas-Boas.
The defender was appointed as club captain following Ledley King’s retirement in the summer, but was surprisingly pushed down the pecking order to make room for young defender Steven Caulker in the first team.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas has been known to prefer younger players, which ultimately led to his dismissal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 the most likely destination.
However, a move away from White Hart Lane never materialized, and the player found himself on the bench for his team. An injury to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Younes-Kaboul-c37543 left Spurs short-staffed at the back, and Villas-Boas had to keep hold of Dawson as back up.
With the ever deteriorating performance of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/William-Gallas-c36874, Dawson looks like he will be staying with the club after all. The player started his fist league game of the season in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool, and was delighted with his team’s performance.
The English centre-half wasn’t bad himself, and put in a solid shift at the back.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
“We started superbly but we were a little fortunate in the end. That start gave us something to hold on to and we needed that with the way we played in the second half. But you can’t always have things how you would like them in football.”
“Not many teams come here and do what Liverpool did to us. It wasn’t our best performance, but we picked up the three points and football’s all about that sometimes. We’re happy with the win.”
Despite the player’s impressive performance, Villas-Boas admitted that he may still be sold if a club keeps calling for his services. It is understood that Harry Redknapp is eyeing a move for his former player, and a January transfer to Loftus Road lies
in the cards.
For now, Dawson is still a Spurs player, and maybe a few good performances may convince Villas-Boas of his importance to the squad.
