The defender fell out of favour when Tottenham appointed Andre Villas-Boas as manager. The player was increasingly linked with Queens Park Rangers, as it was understood that Villas-Boas preferred the young Steven Caulker over Dawson, and was satisfied with
the number of centre-halves the club had at its disposal.
However, an injury to first choice defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Younes-Kaboul-c37543 had Spurs short-staffed, and Dawson ultimately stayed at White Hart Lane.
The situation had initially been very surprising because Dawson had just been appointed club captain during Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034. His fall down the pecking order was thus very strange indeed.
The player failed to make a case for a starting spot in the Spurs first team, and had to make do with substitute appearances in the league and starts in the Europa League and the Capital One Cup.
Dawson only got his first Premier League start last week in the 3-1 victory over West Ham at White Hart Lane, but speculation linking him with the Hoops continues to gather fire.
Reports suggest that new QPR manager Harry Redknapp is keen to reunite with his former player, and would like Dawson to complete a move to Loftus Road. The 29-year old however has played down all transfer talk and has reiterated his happiness at staying
with Tottenham. Talking to reporters after the West Ham game, Dawson said:
“I’m at Tottenham. I’m playing football and I played today. I love playing football and I want to be playing. There’s no hiding that and it’s hard when you’re not."
“Every player wants to play, not just me, and of course it’s frustrating. But I try and keep my head down, works hard and when you’re called upon you’ve got to go out there and perform – and I thought all 11 players performed well.”
“It’s a great feeling and great to get three points because these fans went through a hard week, especially the 5-2 defeat against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429. So it’s good to be back to winning ways.”
