Tottenham Hotspur defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 midfielder Charlie Adam.
The 23-year old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 international had suffered an injury on his ankle ligaments courtesy of a late and reckless tackle by Charlie Adam, in a pre-season game between Tottenham and Liverpool back on Sunday. The challenge had threatened to rule out the player
for the start of the Premier League campaign.
The tackle had left Bale on crutches, and the Welshman was very frustrated and furious about the incident. He had spoken his mind to the press in the post-match conference and had openly called Adam a ‘coward’ for his actions and failure to apologize for
them. Bale also went as far as to term the tackle as a deliberate attack.
This is not the first time both players have been involved in such an incident. If you recall the 2010/2011 season, Bale had suffered another injury by Adam’s hands (or feet) back when the Scot was a Blackpool player. The challenge had sidelined the player
for 3 months.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas had also been very critical of the incident, and had termed the tackle as a ‘nasty’ one. Villas-Boas had also urged Adam to apologize for his tackle. Teammate http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kyle-Walker-c21566 was also quick to come to Bale’s defence and hit out at the
Liverpool player for his actions.
The latest Spurs player to come to Bale’s defence is captain and centre-back Michael Dawson. Reports in the press suggested that the Tottenham winger had overreacted to the incident, especially after Bale’s sudden recovery from his injury. The Welshman scored
in Spurs’ friendly against the New York Red Bulls on Tuesday, and looked perfectly alright, which raised doubts regarding his injury.
Speaking to the press, Dawson said:
“There is no way Gareth was faking it. If you saw his ankle you would see it was badly bruised.”
"The physios have been working hard on him day and night. Some people heal quicker than others. You always worry with ankles. I've had ankle injuries and you know they can be sore and you never know how bad they are until the swelling comes up.”
"Once there is fluid in the ankle, it takes time to come down. Fortunately, Gareth didn't do his ligaments."
