Day-1 of CSV Men’s Continental Beach Volleyball Cup - Match Recap
The second stage of CSV Volleyball Continental Cup took centre stage in Santiago, Chile, on Thursday, November 24. A total of 10 beach volleyball duos from five countries entered the competition, which will continue to the end of this week. The top four
teams of the tournament will be announced on November 27. They will get tickets to the final stage of the continental tournament and finally the race for Olympic tickets will be on.
The opening day of the CSV tournament featured 10 games, where host Chile and Venezuela had an auspicious start. Venezuela finished the day by winning four matches and remained undefeated. As a result of four wins, they bagged 8 points and topped the standings
on Day-1. Likewise, Chilean tandems profited from the home advantage and captured three out of four games. They got hold of the second spot on the ranking chart. Local audiences had high expectations from the Chilean players but they could not avoid the loss
of one match. Around 1000 local fans had come to watch the live action of beach volleyball in Santiago.
In the first match of the day, teams from Venezuela and Uruguay came face to face on centre court. Venezuela 1 was comprised of Jackson Henriquez and Jesus Villafañe, while Guillermo Williman and Nicolás Zanotta represented Uruguay 1. The former displayed
good action of beach volleyball and finished the game in 41 minutes. They posted 2-0 (25-22 and 21-18) on board and clinched success in the match.
The victorious Venezuelan pairing carried the momentum in the next match and did not have much difficulty in overcoming Uruguay 2. Renzo Cairus – Federico Corbo of Uruguay made early mistakes, which allowed Hernandez to score consecutive points. Mussa also
joined hands with Hernandez and seized straight set win (21-12, 21-11). It took them only 39 minutes to hand defeat to Uruguay 2.
Third fixture of the day brought home duo of Marco Grimalt and Esteban Grimalt in the court. They played under the tag of Chile 1 and faced off Daniel Maldonado/ Javier Maldonado of Ecuador 2. The competition lasted for only 28 minutes and the result was
out after a two-set game. Hosts enjoyed the competitive edge of playing under familiar conditions and scored a wonderful victory in front of local fans. 2-0 (21-13, 21-11) was the final score of the match.
Bardales and Javier Lecaro of Ecuador 1 put up a close fight against Chile 2’s Yussef Manzur and Guillermo Jimenez in fourth match. The visiting due started out well and snatched first set from the hosts, 21-18. Chile 2 hit back strongly in the second set
and levelled the score by winning the frame with narrow margin of two points at 27-25. After a heated competition in third set, Chile 2 managed to overpower the opponent and dug up success, 16-13. They won the match at the expense of one set in 62 minutes.
Jackson Henriquez and Jesus Villafañe of Venezuela 2 defeated Ricardo Brandao and Julio Cesar of Brazil in the fifth match. They posted 2-1 (19-21, 21-14, 15-12) victory over Brazilian in 53 minutes.
Venezuelan Hernandez and Mussa came out firing in match-6 and further improved their record by scoring 2-0 (21-14, 22-20) win over Harley and Evandro of Brazil. In the next two matches, Chile 1 and Uruguay 2 emerged successful. The day was closed with back
to back victories by Brazil 1 & 2. They finished both matches in straight sets.
