Day One Results of 2011 World Snooker Q School Event 2: Round 1 – Session 2
The best-of-seven frames, Session 2 on Day-1 of Round 1 of this season’s World Snooker Q School has concluded at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The overall results for the early afternoon session are given below:
Li Hang w/o Luca Brecel
First match of the session saw the Chinese, Li Hang, going into the next round with a walk-over, as Luca Brecel has been awarded a wildcard from World Snooker.
Stephen Craigie 2-4 John Astley
It was an impressive performance from John Astley, as he held his nerves to move into the next round with a comfortable 4-2 win over Stephen Craigie. Astley dominated the opening frame with a carving break of 54 to lead 1-0, which he further extended to
2-0 by winning the following second frame. Though Craigie levelled the scores by pocketing the third and fourth frame with a top break of 62, he lost the following fifth and sixth again. Astley did not do anything outstanding but his flawless safety skills
were enough for him to clinch victory.
James Burnett 4-0 Shahbaz Adil Khan
This most dominant performance of the session came in the second match, as Englishman, James Burnett, completely white-washed his opponent, Shahbaz Adil Khan, by a frame score of 4-0. It was an old-fashioned match with no reasonable breaks, as Burnett showcased
his magnificent safety skills to cruise into the next round.
Michael Wasley 4-1 Alex Borg
This was yet another old-fashioned match, as there were no dominant breaks made by either player. Englishman, Michael Wasley, was far superior to Malta’s professional, Alex Borg, in the safety department. Wasley will now face James Burnett in the Round 2.
Justin Astley 2-4 Duane Jones
The best performance of the session came in this match, as both players showcased their superb break-building skills in it. The opening frame was dominated by Duane Jones before Justin Astley responded in the second, to level proceedings at 1-1. In the third
frame, Jones did not allow his opponent to pot any ball, as he reeled off the frame with a 94-0 score-line. Astley showed no reeling effects and fired a magnificent break of 75 in the fourth, to level the match again at 2-2.
It looked as if the battle will go down the wire but Welshman, Jones, had different plans. He secured the fifth frame without doing anything outstanding and then killed the match with a classy break of 75, in the sixth frame.
