Day eight morning session of the 2011 Australian Swimming Championship
The morning session of the final day of the 2011 Australian Swimming Championship concluded in Sydney on Friday. The championship will wind up today after the second session in the evening and the Australian Head Coach Leigh Nugent will announce the Australian
team to compete at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai.
The session featured preliminary rounds of the two events for the disable swimmers including 100m butterfly for Men and Women along with the 400m individual medley for normal swimmers.
The first event of the morning was the Women’s 100m butterfly, where the Nunawading’s Prue Watt qualified as the fastest swimmer in a time of 1:08.67 minutes. She was comfortably ahead of the Mingara’s Van Roosmalen and Woogaroo’s Ka Clarke, who clocked
a 1:11.70 and 1:11.74 seconds to qualify as the second and third fastest swimmers into tonight’s final.
The next event was the Men’s 100m butterfly, where the Castle Hill RSL’s Andrew Pasterfield dominated the event with his astonishing swim in a time of 1:01.32 minutes. He was comfortably ahead of the second finisher Nunawading’s JTidy and SLC Aquadot’s M
Kilduff, who clocked a wonderful time of 1:02.18 and 1:02.42 minutes respectively.
The third event of the session was the Men’s 400m IM, where the arena enjoyed glazing swim of ST Peters Wester’s Mitch Larkin, who posted an astounding swim of 4:26.62 minutes to occupy the fastest spot into the today’s final. Fraser Holmes engaged him in
a neck-to-neck race from the start but failed to surpass him and touched the wall in 4:27.23 minutes to emerge as the second fastest swimmer into the finals. Holmes finished ahead of the Nunawading’s Travis Nederpelt, who touched the wall third in 4:27.84
minutes.
The last event of the session was the preliminary rounds of the Women’s 400m IM. The event witnessed Australia’s great Stephanie Rice, dominating the event with her 4:45.51 minutes ahead of the Ellen Fullerton and Amy Levings, who qualified as the second
and third fastest in 4:46.43 and 4:47.10 minutes respectively.
The finals of the same events will take place in today’s second session where the winners will be confirmed their spots for Shanghai.
