Day five finals of 2011 Australian Age Championships - Girls events 
Final rounds of day five of the 2011 Australian Age Championships concludes in Adelaide on April 22, as the arena witnessed some remarkable swims of the Girls age group trying to compete with each other for the podium finish in
their events.
The session started with the 17-18yrs 200m back-stroke, where Jordan White’s unmatchable swim of 2:13.98 minutes provided her the gold medal in the event. Norwood’s Whitney Ireland and Hunter’s Elizabeth Smith reached the podium
for the silver and bronze medal, clocking a time of 2:14.11 and 2:16.22 minutes.
In the 12-13yrs 400m freestyle, Taylor Green once again remained undisputed and earned the gold medal in 4:21.18 minutes. Green, who qualified as the fastest swimmer into the finals improved her timing in the final round by nearly
seven seconds. She was followed by Norwood’s Sumi Song and Australian Crawl’s Zannetta Lovi, who clocked 4:23.52 and 4:23.61 minutes for the silver and bronze finish.
Next was the 14yrs 100m back-stroke, where Lauren Rettie posted 1:03.78 minutes to smash the gold medal. Rettie was followed by Abbotsleigh’s Rebecca Booth and NZL’s Naomi Smit, who stepped onto the podium for the silver and bronze
medal in 1:04.82 and 1:05.14 minutes.
In the 15yrs 200m freestyle, Leah Neale of CYMS improved the Australian Age Group Record with a timing of 1:59.80 minutes. Her time was comfortably ahead of the City of Perth’s Brianna Throssell and Acacia Bayside’s Carla Buchanan,
who touched the wall for silver and bronze in 2:01.70 and 2:03.31 minutes respectively.
Moments later, Chandler’s 16-year-old Mikkayla Sheridan earned the gold medal for the 100m butterfly in a time of 1:00.95 minutes. She was followed by UNAQ’s Britta Elmslie and Haileybury’s Samantha Wilkins, who hit the finishing
wall for second and third in 1:02.02 and 1:02.16 minutes.
After few minutes, Jemma Schlicht reached the top of podium for gold medal in the 50m freestyle. 15-year-old Schlicht produced a time of 26.22 seconds ahead of the HKG’s S. Haughey and Acacia’s Brook Thornton, who clocked 26.50
and 26.68 minutes.
In the 400m Individual Medley, Hunter’s 14-year-old Meg Hailey ensured her eligibility for the crown, posting a time of 4:56.77 minutes. Waterwork’s Megan Gianotti and Denman’s Jade Moody completed their swims in 5:01.53 and 5:01.80
minutes to occupy the silver and bronze medal.
The last event of the session was the 15yrs 200m breast-stroke, where NZL’s Nat Lloyd appeared as the fastest swimmer with a timing of 2:31.57 minutes. She was followed by Jessica Hansen and Hanna Beighton, who touched the wall
for silver and bronze medal in a time of 2:32.80 and 2:37.85 minutes.
The championship will conclude on April 23 after the completion of all the swimming events.
