Day four preliminary rounds of 2011 Australian Age Championships - Girls events
Fourth day of the 2011 Australian Age Championships concluded with the preliminary rounds of youth female swimmers on April 21.
The session witnessed dynamic performances of young swimmers, seeking the fastest qualification into the finals in their respective events.
In the 17-18yrs 100m butterfly, Tessa Wallace transpired as the fastest swimmer into the finals, touching the wall in a time of 1:01.72 minutes. Her tremendous effort in the 100m event placed her 0.11 seconds ahead of the Cranbrook’s Nicole Mee and Peters
Westers’s Melanie Bath, who touched the wall in 1:01.83 and 1:02.39 minutes.
Next was the preliminary rounds of the 16-year-olds 200m freestyle, where Chandler’s Mikkayla Sheridan occupied the top qualification spot into the finals, clocking a time of 2:04.78 minutes. She was followed by Cherrybrook’s Je Liimatainen and Norwood’s
Emma Duncan, who qualified as the second and third fastest swimmer in a time of 2:04.93 and 2:05.81 minutes.
Later, Carlile’s Ami Matsuo dominated the 14-year-olds 50m freestyle. Matsuo touched the wall first in an astonishing time of 26.60 seconds to earn the fastest qualification. Jamboree Heights’s Tatum Marais and NZL’s Naomi Smit followed her into the finals,
clocking a time of 26.92 and 26.97 seconds.
Moments later, 15-year-old Hayley Baker of Melbourne cruised her way into the finals of 100m back-stroke, touching the wall first in a time of 1:04.07 seconds. Baker’s stupendous time placed her comfortably ahead of the Pelican Waters’s Tianni Gilmour and
Marlin Coast’s Jasmine Tong, who posted a time of 1:05.12 and 1:05.22 minutes for the second and third fastest qualification.
After few minutes, Taylor Green of River City Rapid dominated the 12-13yrs 200m butterfly, clocking a time of 2:20.94 minutes. Surrey Park’s Jemma Schlicht and Macquaire’s Alice Stuart followed Green into the finals by touching home in 2:22.27 and 2:22.70
minutes.
Then, 18-year-old Aisling Scott stunned the arena with her astounding swim of 2:20.07 minutes in the 200m Individual Medley that made her top contender for the gold medal. Scott was followed by Pelican’s Tessa Wallace and Melbourne’s Holly Brettle in a time
of 2:21.87 and 2:21.98 minutes.
Next was the 14-year-olds 400m freestyle, where Fairweather of Kawana Waters demonstrated an amazing swim in a time of 4:24.10 minutes. Her time was considerably ahead of her following swimmers, Melbourne’s Rachael Mihatsch and Bayside’s Emma Reid, who qualified
in a time of 4:27.13 and 4:28.01 minutes.
Then, 16-year-old Kate Dimou of Brothers conquered the 200m breast-stroke by touching the wall in a time of 2:36.58 minutes and was followed by Carlee Millikin and Sarah Baker in a time of 2:37.24 and 2:39.78 minutes.
The finals of the same events will be conducted in the second session, where the winners will earn awards for their performances.
