I have a bunch of seed pods (green) which I plucked from various colors of day lilies. How do I get them to the "black seed) stage, then how do I germinate them so that I will have plants?

  1. I'm sorry, but I think you picked the seed pods too early ! The cases need to turn brown and dead on the outside before the seeds are ripe enough and after this is done it is best to take the seeds out and stratify them.  This means to place them into the fridge for about one month to imitate winter because many seeds need to go through a cold period before germination.

    Other seeds needing this process include, hazelnuts and all nuts

    cherries, cedars etc.  You can find more info about day lilies on the link below;

  2. You leave the pods on the plants until they start to dry. If you plucked them and the seeds are green you're out of luck.
