Day one of the 2011 Arafura Games: 12 and Under Swimming events
Morning session of day one of the 2011 Arafura Games concluded with the preliminary rounds of swimming events in the 12 and Under age-category. The arena witnessed beautiful swims of junior squad, seeking fastest qualification spots into the finals in their
respective events.
The session conducted the preliminary rounds of the 200m Individual Medley (IM) and the 50m back-stroke in the Boy’s and Girl’s category.
The session started with the preliminary rounds of Girl’s 200m IM, where the Emma Terebo appeared as the fastest swimmer to qualify into the finals, clocking a time of 2:44.14 minutes. She was followed by ELLY-Rose Martin and Brittany Beesley, who qualified
as the second and third fastest swimmers with a timing of 2:46.93 and 2:47.55 minutes, respectively.
Moments later, Thibaut Mary dominated the Boy’s equivalent event by clocking a time of 2:40.53 minutes. His time was almost two seconds away from his closest swimmer, Mathieu Michel, who touched the wall for second fastest qualification in 2:42.93 minutes.
They were followed by Paul McNamara, who touched the wall in 2:46.51 to secure third fastest spot.
The third event of the session was Girl’s 50m back-stroke, where Terebo once again presented an undisputable swim and smashed the fastest qualification berth, clocking 34.30 seconds. Beesley, who qualified as the third fastest swimmer in the 200m IM earlier,
occupied second fastest qualification with a timing of 34.46 seconds. They were followed by Kaitlyn Lee, who secured third fastest spot by touching home in 34.60 seconds.
Similarly, Mary conquered the Boy’s equivalent event by producing an unmatchable swim of 34.36 seconds. He was followed by Gerard Standing and Jesse Staples, who touched the wall for second and third fastest qualification, posting a time of 35.55 and 35.67
seconds, respectively. Staples was only 0.38 seconds away from his closest swimmer, Saxon Radecki, who qualified fourth in a time of 36.05 seconds.
The finals of the same events will be conducted in the evening session, where the swimmers will only be a step away from securing their podium finishes.
