Day one of the 2011 Arafura Games: 13-14yrs Swimming events
Morning session of day one of 2011 Arafura Games concluded with the preliminary rounds of the swimming events, of the 13 to 14yrs age group swimmers. The session witnessed gruelling efforts of the teenage swimmers, trying to claim fastest qualification spot
in their events.
The session initiated with the Girl’s 200m Individual Medley (IM), where Maeva Parayre of New California demonstrated her spectacular swim, clocking 2:40.71 minutes to conquer the fastest qualification seat. She was followed by Jade MacDonald-Razvi and Rachael
Gilholm, who emerged as the second and third fastest qualifying swimmers, touching the wall in 2:43.07 and 2:43.17 minutes, respectively.
Philippines-AK’s Marc Artemius Paderon dominated the equivalent event in the Boy’s category by posting a time of 2:21.93 minutes. The 14-year-old Paderon was almost four seconds away from his strongest competitor, New California’s Emmanuel Limozin, who qualified
as the second fastest swimmer, touching the wall in 2:25.65 minutes. In addition, Limozin was almost three seconds ahead of NT’s Ayrton Innes, who qualified as the third fastest, with a timing of 2:28.03 minutes.
Next was the 100m breast-stroke in the Girl’s category, where Talara-Jade Dixon cruised her way to the finishing wall, clocking 37.10 seconds for the fastest qualification seat into the final. She was followed by Andie Moffatt and Jade MacDonald-Razvi, who
appeared as the second and third fastest swimmers in a time of 39.30 and 39.41 seconds, respectively.
In the Girl’s 50m freestyle, Maeva Parayre once again qualified as the fastest swimmer into the final by producing a time of 29.11 seconds. Rachael Gilholm and Carmi Louw followed her into the final as the second and third fastest swimmers, in a time of
29.48 and 29.78 seconds, respectively.
The last event of the session was the 50m freestyle in the Boy’s corner, where Ayrton Innes occupied the fastest qualification spot with a timing of 26.58 seconds. Christian Nikles and Rafael Sta. Maria secured second and third fastest spots, clocking a
time of 26.71 and 26.76 seconds, respectively.
The finals of the same events will take place at today’s second session, where the deserving swimmers will be awarded awards and accolades.
