Day one of the 2011 Arafura Games: Multi-Class Swimming events
Morning session of day one of the 2011 Arafura Games concluded with the dazzling swims of multi-class swimmers, trying to battle each other for the fastest qualification seats into the finals.
The session included the preliminary rounds of the 50m freestyle, 100m b*****s-stroke and 400m freestyle in the Men’s and Women’s multi-class category.
Women’s 50m freestyle was the first event of the session, where the 19-year-old Kayla Clarke of Australian squad conquered the fastest qualification spot by touching the wall first in a time of 30.08 seconds. Her team-members, Kara Leo and Taylor Corry,
followed her on the finishing wall, posting a time of 30.56 and 30.62 seconds, respectively.
Next was the equivalent event in the Men’s category, where the Australian Squad’s Daniel Fox emerged as the fastest qualifying swimmer into the final by clocking 26.72 seconds. He was only 0.01 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Mitchell Kilduff, who
qualified as the second fastest swimmer with a timing of 26.73 seconds. 28-year-old Patrick Donachie followed them into the final as the third fastest swimmer in 27.62 seconds.
The third event of the session was Women’s 100m breast-stroke, where the 19-year-old Australian, Kayla Clarke once again dominated the event by occupying the fastest qualification seat in 1:28.21 minutes.14-year-old Amanda Fowler and 22-year-old Nerice Mills
followed her on the finishing wall, posting a time of 1:33.25 and 1:37.17 minutes, respectively.
Later, Richard Elliason of Australian Squad conquered the Men’s equivalent event by touching the wall in a time of 1:15.26 minutes. Elliason’s team member, Patrick Donachie was three seconds away from him and touched the wall second in 1:18.44 minutes. Thailand’s
Taweesook Sumuksaneeto followed them on the wall, clocking a time of 1:56.61 minutes.
The last multi-class event of the session was the Men’s 400m freestyle, where Daniel Fox proved his eligibility for the fastest seat in a time of 4:33.29 minutes. He was followed by Mitchell Kilduff and Rowan Crothers, who touched the wall for second and
third fastest seats in a time of 4:36.59 and 4:44.98 minutes, respectively.
The finals of the same event will be conducted in the today’s second session, where the winners will claims their spots on the podium.
