Day one results of the 2011 World Snooker Q School Event two: Round 1 – First session update
Event one of World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) 2011 ended on Monday, May 16, giving four tour card holders. The second event of the category began at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, on Tuesday and two sessions of the first round have already
been finished.
Six matches were scheduled in the first session of the event but only three were played while Gareth Allen, David Gray and Alex Taubman got walkovers in their respective matches against Sam Baird, David Grace and Robin Hull, as Baird, Grace and Hull have
qualified for the main tour already.
Nick Jennings 4-1 Sachin Plaha
The first session of Q School Event two began with the match between Englishman, Nick Jennings and India’s Sachin Plaha where Jennings defeated the Indian with a convincing score line of 4-1. Not many major breaks were fired during the match but the Portsmouth
potter, Jennings, dominated the game from the start.
Jennings had an early 1-0 lead, as he grabbed the first scrappy frame with relative ease at 47-29, followed by Plaha’s first frame victory with 30-67, to level at 1-1. The 20-year-old Jennings stumbled upon the table after that and swept it in the next three
frames consecutively, to win the match by 4-1 and surge into the next round against Brijesh Damani. The overall score-line of the match was 47-29, 30-67, 54-31, 75-10 and 65-9.
Brijesh Damani 4-2 Sydney Wilson
Indian cueist, Damani, felt no pressure during the match as he pounced upon the table from the very start and took a 3-0 quick lead in the match. Wilson tried to capitalise as he bounced back to win back-to-back frames with 30-66 and 1-69, respectively.
However, a rattling clearance of 72 in the sixth frame brought Damani two frames up and he clinched the match 4-2, with the frame score-line of 75-13, 70-51, 67-38, 30-66, 1-69, 74 (Damani 72)-29. Damani will next meet Englishman, Nick Jennings, in the second
round of the Q School Event two.
Anthony Parsons 4-3 Jamie O'Neill
This was the most thrilling encounter of the session that ended in a decider frame and was played between Englishmen, Parsons and O’Neill, at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. Parsons grabbed the match victory after a tough resistance from the 24-year-old,
O’Neill.
Parsons got a 2-0 lead after a superb half-century break of 53 in the first frame. Two outstanding knocks of 51, 98 and 73 brought O’Neill 2-3 up after he grabbed three consecutive frames by 0-98, 0-99 and 0-79. He could not do more after that as Parsons
took the next two frames to steal the victory with the frame scores of 60(53)-57, 71-61, 0-98 (51), 0-99 (98), 0-79 (73), 63-26, 50-15.
