Day three - Morning session of the 2011 Eric Namesnik Grand Prix: Swimming News
Morning session of day three of the 2011 Eric Namesnik Grand Prix consisted of the preliminary rounds of the 200m Individual Medley, 200m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 800m freestyle and the 1500m freestyle in the Men’s and Women’s category.
The session started with the preliminary rounds of the Women’s 200m IM, where Ariana Kukors presented a dominating swim in a time of 2:15.72 minutes. Elizabeth Pelton and Caitlin Leverenz followed her into the finals as the second and third fastest swimmers
in a time of 2:15.82 and 2:16.23 minutes, respectively.
Next were the preliminary rounds of the Men’s 200m IM, where M V Pereira emerged as the fastest swimmer to qualify in a time of 2:00.05 minutes. With his tremendous swim, Pereira out-touched the Trojan’s Markus Rogan and Oussama Mellouli, who touched the
wall in a time of 2:01.45 and 2:01.48 minutes, respectively.
In the Women’s 200m backstroke, Madison White conquered the fastest qualification spot by clocking a time of 2:14.18 minutes. Rogan finished considerably ahead of the Sidney Cooke and There Svendsen, who touched the wall in a time of 2:16.50 and 2:16.97
minutes, respectively.
Later on, arena witnessed Scott T Clary dominating the Men’s 200m backstroke with his gruelling effort of 2:00.92 minutes that placed him far ahead of his following swimmers Leonardo Fim and Ryan Lochte. Fim touched the wall second, clocking a time of 2:02.38
minutes while Lochte posted 2:02.64 minutes for third.
Moments after, Natalie Coughlin produced a glazing swim in the Women’s 100m freestyle heat. She clocked a time of 55.02 seconds to qualify as the fastest swimmer ahead of the Dana W Vollmer and Kathryn Hoff, who clocked 55.22 and 55.79 seconds, respectively.
Next was the Men’s 100m freestyle, where the Brazilian Cielo Filho claimed the fastest qualification spot in 50.01 seconds to qualify as the fastest swimmer. Nicholas Santos and Michael Phelps followed him on the podium for the second and third fastest qualification
in a time of 50.10 and 50.20 seconds, respectively.
In the Women’s 800m freestyle time-final, Kathryn Hoff won the hearts of crowd by presenting a wonderful swim of 8:35.51 minutes. Hoff was followed by Andreina Pinto and Emily Brunemann, who touched the wall for second and third in a time of 8:37.44 and
8:44.36 minutes, respectively.
The last event of the session was the Men’s 1500m freestyle time-final, where Arthur Frayler won the gold medal in a time of 15:18.56 minutes. Michael Klueh and Andrew Gemmell followed him on the podium for the silver and bronze medal in a time of 15:24.63
and 15:28.87 minutes, respectively.
The competition is the fifth spot of the 2011 USA Grand Prix Series and these swimmers will once again face each other at its next stop in Charlotte during May.
