Day three finals at the 2011 Australian Age Championships - Boys events
Day three of the 2011 Australian Age Championship concluded on April 20, 2011, at the Swimming Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre, in Adelaide. The session witnessed gruelling efforts of the Australian youth, trying to conquer top spot in their respective
events.
In the 100m breast-stroke, 15-year-old Jesse King presented a wonderful swim of 1:05.87 minutes to overwhelm his fellow swimmers. King clocked an unmatchable 1:05.87 minutes to earn the gold finish. Second spot on the podium was secured by NZL’s Schroeder,
who ended his swim in 1:06.30 minutes and the bronze medal went to All Saints’ Ro Franks, who posted a time of 1:06.63 minutes.
The next was the 200m butterfly, where the 14-year-old Andrew Walker earned the gold medal in an improved time of 2:07.63 minutes. Walker, after qualifying as the second fastest swimmer into the final, proved his eligibility for the crown when he finished
two seconds ahead of the silver medallist, Mitch Phillips. Phillips touched the wall in 2:09.49 seconds to finish ahead of the NZL’s Mincham, who appeared third in 2:10.05 minutes.
Later, David McKeon of Wests Illawarra sustained his fastest spot by smashing the gold medal in a fastest time of 1:49.87 minutes. Trinity Grammar’s Kenneth To and Mackay’s Justin James followed him on the podium for the silver and bronze medal, producing
a time of 1:50.47 and 1:51.59 minutes, respectively.
After a few minutes, Robert Gerlach demonstrated a spectacular swim in the 100m back-stroke, earning the gold medal in 56.20 seconds. Core Main of NZL and Adam Nettlefold of Firbank Aquastar secured silver and bronze finishes by touching the wall in 56.63
and 57.53 seconds, respectively.
Next was the 400m freestyle, where 15-year-old Jordan Harrison claimed the title for the event with his superb effort of 3:57.04 minutes. His time was almost nine seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Lachlan Sweeney, who touched the wall in a time of
4:06.11 minutes for the silver medal. Sean Maloney followed them on the podium for the bronze medal in a time of 4:06.62 minutes.
In the 14-year-olds 100m freestyle, Edward Marks demonstrated an intelligent swim by out-touching his closest swimmer, Mack Horton with a terrific 53.39 seconds effort. Horton touched the wall second in 53.46 seconds and was followed by Auburn’s Peter Topalidis,
who won the bronze medal in 53.47 seconds.
The 12-13yrs 200m back-stroke was the last event of the session, where Nunawading’s Nicholas Groenewald claimed the title in an Australian record time of 2:07.00 minutes. Seijun Ohori and Damian Fyfe won the silver and bronze medal in a time of 2:14.54 and
2:17.92 minutes, respectively.
With his fantastic timing, Groenewald won the hearts of crowd and the swimmer has aroused the hopes of Australian swimming fans.
