Day trip in socal area!!?

Where's a good place to go to for a day/half day trip in the socal area?? i know venice is nice.. anywhere else?

There are many wonderful and interesting places in Southern California where you can visit, such as, Marina Del Rey, UCLA & Westwood Village, The Grove at Farmers Market, Balboa Park in San Diego, Mann's Chinese Theatre, La Brea Tar Pits, beautiful La Jolla Beach in San Diego, J. Paul Getty Museum(Free!) to the amazing LA County Arboretum & Bontanical Garden. Venice and adjoining Santa Monica would be a nice place to visit, with shops, beach and food readily available. You can stop by the near by Museum of Jurassic Technology in Culver City (5 dollar donation entrance I think)

Also nice, and heavily suggested by me, would be Downtown Los Angeles. China Town, Little Tokyo, Olvera Street, Museums, Great places to eat, great skyline, and easy access using public transportation make this an ideal place to daytrip.

If you are looking for a beachy type of area then you could go to Laguna Beach and check out the Sawdust Festival. It is pretty cool there - you can check out local artisans, drink a beer and watch them at the glass blowing booth. They also have live music too. When you are done there you could walk a few blocks and check out downtown Laguna with all the other little shops and restaurants they have there, check out the view from the bluff or walk across PCH and be at Main Beach.

You could always go to Griffith Park and check out everything there too, lots of stuff to do.

You could get up early and go to Catalina from Long Beach, check out buying a ticket for the ferry cuz they sell out on busy weekends.
