I want to go on a ferry, not through the tunnel.

  1. The coach companies are not tourist agents. They are often hired by and managed by travel agents because driving a bus is not all there is to creating a day trip.

This company does a decent job and reasonable: There website is not much to look at, but they have what you need.

  2. If you have a car why not take it on Speed Ferries from Dover to Bolougne.  Very fast service, reasonable prices.

We have just done it (out at 14:40 back on 20:20) to go to Akinkerke in Belgium to buy 2 x 3,200 cigarettes.  Saved 1/3 on UK prices even after allowing for ferry charges, petrol etc!

  3. am not an expert on basildon, but would like to offer one tip, having done a day trip on a coach before......

get them to tell you (they may not like to admit it) how many stops they are going to make on the way to pick other people up.

the route i took would normally have taken less than two hours by car (90 mins in the early hours of the morning) but this coach stopped in about 20 places to pick up passengers, and took 3 1/2 hours each way between my town and the port.   Seven hours on the coach plus the channel crossing = NOT MUCH time in France, so please make sure you ask enough questions before you book.

    hope it works out anyway.

  4. You should be able to catch one from Romford - not sure about going on the ferry though.  Most companies now use the tunnel because its much cheaper.
