Question:

Day trip to France...?

Hiya. I'm thinking about taking my boyfriend to France for the day (and night, possibly), by ferry. It would only be a short trip.

Would it be best to get a train (from Nottingham) to Dover but then we'd have to get our own transport to Paris, OR go on a coach trip? I'm trying to save up but I'd like to know the cheapest and easiest option!

Does anyone know roughly how long it would take on a coach trip to get to Paris itself?

And lastly, do you need a passport to get there by ferry? I have one, but my boyfriend doesn't.

Sorry for all the questions! Lol. Hope you can help! Thanks in advance x*x

  1. The train is faster, you will have more time in Paris.

But if you just want to enjoy being in France, the towns near the coast are mostly nice too, and a local train will get you to a better one if you do not like the one where you land.

I have found that coach trips take very long because they pick up passengers in several places before starting the real trip. (Sometimes you also have to change coaches with an extra wait.)

France is easy to travel, you can talk with almost everybody in travel industry, stations and restaurants in English.

You can find the train times in France on this site:

If you go for a train which it called ter or corrail you can buy a ticket on the day, if you want to travel with an TGV, check the price, this is a high speed train and might be cheaper if bought before traveling.

You will need a passport going to France, whatever way you travel.

Have you looked into the Eurostar connection?

Might work best if you want to go to Paris.

  2. to start with yes he will need a passport definatly

  3. Hi

    You will need a passport.

These days, train & coach are not the cheapest way to travel.

Check out Ryanair flights to France from EMA.

You could be on the Med near Nimes for less than the rail cost Nottingham - London.

And it takes under 2 hours.
