Question:

Day trip to St. Andrews from Edinburgh?

I am going to Edinburgh in a few months and would like to visit St. Andrews. What is the cheapest way to get there using public transportation for a day trip? I see there are lots of buses but its all rather confusing. A 2-3 hours trip is no problem as it will provide some sightseeing.

If you know of a cheap (motorized) way to get there, could you also put an approximate cost of a ticket here? Thanks!

  1. The quickest way of getting there using public transport is to take a train to Cupar and from there pick up a bus to St Andrews. The journey takes around an hour and a half.

There is a bus that goes directly (and this option would be the cheapest) and the journey takes around two hours.

You can find details of both these journeys (and any others on public transport in Scotland) on http://www.travelinescotland.com/

  2. national express website. just put in your destination and time you want to go then a list of prices will come up.
