Day trip to the keys from South Beach

Question

Would it be worth the trip to visit the keys in 1 day?

I only have 5 days in Miami and don't want to spend more than 1 day going to the keys, I mean I live on Aruba, so how much different can such a set of islands be...

I already want to spend 1 day at sawgrass mill mall, and perhaps a visit to the everglades.

Any input?

Whew! I hope you like to spend time in the car. Sawgrass is far from Miami and will take you a little under an hour to get to, if all goes well. The Everglades trip, depending upon what you're talking about, is the better part of another day. You could do the keys and back in a day, but most of the time you'd be driving--and that's assuming that you could live without going all the way to Key West. That said, part of the fun in a keys trip is the drive itself.

If you're keen on a mall, well, there you are. But what I would suggest packing into a five-day trip to Miami, in the best order, is Coconut Grove, South Beach on Miami Beach, Calle Ocho, cruising the (Biscayne Boulevard), Coral Gables and some of the real fancy residential areas, which are in some of the areas I've mentioned.

You can do the Keys in a day.  You can do the Keys on a boat.  Grab the Miami Times magazine or do a search, I believe there is an add in there that has a boat that leaves miami to Key West round-trip.  It was less than $100 p/p.   If you want to drive, it is a beautiful scenic drive, but long. Stop in the Isla Morada tiki bar.  I think is on mile marker 89.  Super nice.  That is a big hangout with live island music on the weekends.  Try their Bushwhacker drink....is the best.  

I love the Sawgrass Mill's mall. You will definitely need a day on that. But if you leave early, you might as well knock out the everglades out of the way.

I think it would be worth a trip to visit the keys and if you decide to visit the keys you should go all the way to Key West. In my opinion, Key West is very beautiful but also very expensive. So drive there for the day is perfect. I do that all the time because didn't want to spend $350 (if I lucky) and up for a hotel. It would take about a bit over 3 hour per trip (about 160 miles). I see that your from Aruba but Key West has a land mark for the southern most point of USA. It has a very beautiful sunset. Very cute street and city setting. Sawgrass mill is a ripoff. ( Just want to let you know ) Aventura mall is not an outlet mall but much nicer and many more store. http://www.aventuramall.com/  . Everglades would be fun to do.
