Day-two Results: Bank of Beijing China Open 2011
The second day of the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011 provided a lot of excitement for the fans. There were a couple of close matches which ended in a decider frame at the Peking University Students Gymnasium in Beijing. A total of eight matches were played;
two in the Wild Card round and six in the last-32 round.
Undoubtedly the best match of the day was played between Stephen Lee and defending champion Mark Williams. Though Williams lost to Lee 5-4, he played outstandingly and proved why he is called the Welsh Potting Machine. He really put up a classy potting display
and built tremendous century breaks in all four frames he won. He also fired a brilliant century break of 137, which was the highest break of the match and the tournament so far.
The 2010 China Open winner Williams grabbed the first two scrappy frames after firing sensational centuries and shattered Lee early on. The Englishman pulled himself together and bounced back snatching the next three with a couple of decent breaks including
a century and a half century. The game was then tied at 4-4. After an evenly contested game Lee managed to clinch victory on the black with just two-point margin.
On the other hand, the 2010 China Open runner-up Ding Junhui came out as a centurion, and surged into the second round of the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011. He overcame Kurt Muflin 5-4 after displaying some brilliant pocketing skills throughout the match.
Ding will meet the former world champion Stephen Hendry in the second round.
Another close match that ended in a decider was between the World Snooker Championship 2010 runner-up Graeme Dott and Li Hang. The Chinese beat Dott 5-4, firing some sensational century breaks of 117 and 133; the second highest break of the tournament so
far.
