Day two finals – 12 years and Under Swimming events: 2011 Arafura Games
The second session of day two of the 2011 Arafura Games completed with impressive swims of 12 years  and Under age group swimmers in their respective events.
Girl’s and Boy’s of 12 years and Under demonstrated their gruelling efforts in the events of 100m freestyle and the 50m butterfly, trying to conquer the crown of their respective category.
The session started with the Girl’s 100m freestyle, where the arena’s favourite, Emma Terebo, dominated the event with her great swimming skills. Her magnificent swimming effort of 1:03.00 minutes placed her on the top of the podium for the gold medal. The
12-year-old Terebo was 1.0 seconds faster than her closest rival, Elly-Rose Martin, who touched home for the silver medal, clocking a time of 1:04.60 minutes. Brittany Beesley, the fourth fastest qualifier into the final moved up to the third spot in the finals,
beating Jayde Freeman by almost one second. Beesley clocked a time of 1:06.79 minutes against Freeman’s 1:07.57 seconds effort.
Moments later, New Caledonia’s Thibaut Mary displayed a tremendous swim in the Boy’s 100m freestyle. Mary conquered the gold medal with his magnificent efforts of 1:02.55 minutes. His efforts were almost two seconds faster than his following swimmer, Mathieu
Michel, who touched the wall for the silver medal, clocking a time of 1:04.33 minutes. Stuart McRae of NT earned the crowd’s respect by sustaining his position in the final, as he earned the bronze medal in 1:05.05 minutes.
Next was the Girl’s 50m butterfly, where the crowd’s favourite Emma Terebo improved her timing by almost three seconds to smash the gold medal. Terebo produced a time of 55.72 seconds to reach the top of podium. She was followed by Victoria’s Elly-Rose Martin
and West Australia’s Brittany Beesley, who followed her on the podium for the silver and bronze medal, posting a time of 56.11 and 56.52 seconds, respectively.
Then, Mathieu Michel proved his eligibility for the golden crown of Boy’s 50m butterfly. Michel earned the crown by clocking a time of 30.22 seconds that was 0.40 seconds away from his following swimmer. WA-sp’s Gerard standing, who qualified as the third
fastest swimmer, overwhelmed Thibaut Mary with a timing of 30.62 seconds to earn the silver medal. Mary secured a bronze finish by posting a time of 30.78 seconds that was almost three seconds faster than his following swimmer.
The session concluded after the swimming events whereas the championship will conclude on May 11, 2011 after the completion of all swimming events.
