Day two finals - 13–14 years Swimming events: 2011 Arafura Games
Evening session of day two of the 2011 Arafura Games completed after the miraculous swims of 13 to 14 years old age group swimmer in their events.
The session witnessed astonishing performances of the 13 to 14 years of male and female swimmers in the 50m butterfly and the 100m freestyle, trying to reach the top of podium in their respective events.
The session began with the Boy’s 100m freestyle, where Philippines Rafael Sta.Maria improved his timing by a considerable distance of almost two seconds to smash the gold medal. Rafael, who qualified as the second fastest swimmer, defeated his competitor
Marc Artemius Paderon by posting a time of 57.84 seconds. Paderon failed to sustain his fastest spot and climbed the podium for the silver medal with a timing of 58.03 seconds. The arena witnessed the same for bronze medal, where Brunei’s Christian Nikles
cruised his way into the final to defeat the third fastest sprinter, Ayrton Innes, by posting 58.59 seconds. Innes sluggish swim of 59.13 seconds placed him fourth on the points table.
The next was the Girl’s equivalent event, where Nakita Pollock of NT conquered the crown for the event by touching the wall first in a time of 1:04.85 minutes. Pollock qualified as the second fastest sprinter into the final but with the help of her powerful
stroke, she defeated her strongest rival, Rachael Gilholm. Gilholm stood on the podium for the silver medal, posting a time of 1:04.87 seconds. They were followed by West Australia’s Talara-Jade Dixon, who climbed the podium for the bronze medal with a timing
of 1:05.81 minutes.
In the meantime, Rafael once again dominated the podium in the Boy’s 50m butterfly. He earned the gold medal by touching the wall in a time of 27.28 seconds. His team member, Paderon followed him on the podium for the silver medal, producing a time of 28.42
seconds. Later, Jack Atkin, who qualified as the third fastest simmer into the finals, sustained his position and pocketed the bronze medal in a time of 28.78 seconds.
The final swim of the session was Girl’s 50m butterfly, where Jade MacDonald-Razvi conquered the gold medal in a time of 30.74 seconds. Maeva Parayre and Rachael Gilholm followed her on the podium for the silver and bronze finish, clocking a time of 31.32
and 31.95 seconds, respectively.
These swimmers will race each other in the remaining swimming events for two more days, as the championship will end on May 11, 2011 after the completion of swimming events.
