Wild card round matches
The remaining two wild card matches were concluded on the day in which both Robert Milkins and Gerard Greene have emerged successfully after beating their opponents Yu De Lu and Rouzi Maimaiti respectively.
The Chinese Yu De Lu despite of producing a match-highest break of 117 lost by a frame score of 5-2 while Rouzi Maimaiti could only register a win in one frame with a dominant break of 61.
Last 32 round matches
The upset of the day was seen between Graeme Dott and Li Hang, where former 2006 world champion and two-time runner-up Dott was knocked out by the Chinese, Hang.
Li Hang, who out-played former world champion Ken Doherty in his wild card round match, produced a high standard game to see off the Scottish. Hang, the only Chinese who came through the wild card rounds fired up classy breaks of 81, 117, 133 and 71 to put
a shock on the cards.
Another upset was of the Welsh potting machine Mark Williams, who despite of producing four century breaks including a tournament high of 137, lost to Stephen Lee in the final deciding frame on the black ball.
It was a cut-throat competition between the players however the world number 23 made a dominating performance to see off the defending champion and the tournament favourite.
Kurt Maflin’s invincible run has also been ended by the Chinese Sensation Ding Junhui, who ended his hopes after a fully stretched battle. Maflin, who started from the very first qualifying round and beat all the players, was almost on the verge to clinch
victory, as he only needed one frame but the world number 4, Ding clawed back and won all four frames in a row to secure a place in the last 16.
Another close competition was seen between Marcus Campbell and Mark Allen, where the Dumbarton destroyer Campbell, edged his strong opponent in a thrilling final frame.
The livewire Stephen Maguire, who was fancied for the match, has also lost to Mark Davis by a frame score of 5-3.
