Dayatthespa completes her hat-trick with a victory in the Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland
Dayatthespa ran in an incredible manner in the Grade 3, $100,000 Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland, which took place on 19th April, 2012. It was a much deserved victory considering the way she ran throughout the race.
Ridden by jockey, Javier Castellano, the daughter of City Zip, out of mare M'Lady Doc, maintained her composure and bolted through the track with her brisk pace.
She landed the victory, whereas Somali Lemonade, who was second favourite with the odds of 8 to 5,  finished 2 ¾ lengths behind her as a runner-up, as Regalo Mia finished third.
Chad Brown, the winning trainer, was pleased with Dayatthespa as this was his first victory at Keeneland after 11 starts. He stated that: "We'll take her back to New York and see what's there for her."
"I had a beautiful trip, and she really relaxed today," Castellano stated after the race "Turning for home, she responded so well."
He further stated that: "She is so quick from the gate, and Chad did a great job getting her ready for this."
This victory completed the hat-trick for Dayatthespa, who is owned by Jerry Frankel, Ronald Frankel, Steve Laymon and Bradley Thoroughbreds.
The chestnut filly, who was whelped on 17th February, 2009, emerged victorious from the Sweetest Chant Stakes (Fillies) (Turf) at Gulfstream Park on 22nd
January, 2012, where she raced as a favourite with a chance of 7 to 5.
Much to the satisfaction of her connections, she managed to succeed. and defeated the Thomas Bush trained, Wholelottashakin, by 1 ¾ lengths, whereas the third place was acquired by Frolic's Revenge, who finished 2 ¼ lengths adrift of the runner-up.
Bred by Castellare Di Cracchiolo Stable, Cracchiolo and Goldsher, the filly entered the Herecomesthebride Stakes (Grade 3) (Fillies) with the same momentum.
Mounted by Castellano, she used her status as a favourite to her benefit, as she raced with the  odds of 9 to 10.
With enthusiasm and motivation, she landed the narrow victory by a marginal difference of a neck over the Michelle Nihei trained Regalo Mia.
Things are looking up for this young runner, if she continues to perform in the same manner she will achieve many victories in the future.
