Daycare Centers?

Hey does anyone know if I need to have a degree in child developement to open a daycare center? I want to just own it and hire a director to run things. I have the finances. love kids and I think it would be a good investment. Let me know guys!!

I think you can just hire a director with the credentials.  You will be on the license, but she will be the one that is held liable for licensing issues.  Just contact the state to see what you need to do, because each state has different laws/rules.  Have fun, good luck.  And you might want to require her to have a degree even if the state doesn't.  This ensures quality care for the children and families!

In California, anyone can get a license to provide childcare.  It is also not (in most cases) financially lucrative enough to be a salary collecting owner and support a full time administrator.  Go to the web site of the Department of Social Services in you area and see application procedures. Then go interview director / owners of centers comparable to the type and size you want.  You need a much more realistic finacial picture before you invest in this.

  3. Yes you do. Because if anything happens to a child there the director, employes, and you will all get in trouble. I live in Tennessee and thats what they would do.

  4. Some daycares have "The Star Program".  (Up to 5 stars).  To get one of the 5 stars, the director should have a degree.
