Call your local elementary schools, churches, and child care information service.  They should be able to help you make a list of programs in your area.  Then visit those programs individually to make a judgement as to which is best for your child.  Consider cleanliness, staff/child ratio, staff/child interaction, and convenience of location as well as rates.  Look to see if the children appear to be happy and actively engaged in constructive activities that your child might enjoy.  You might also ask about staff turn over, and staff credentials.  Cost is important but may not be the most important consideration.  Ask if there is help available, such as subsidized child care, in your area.
