Question:

Daycare in Venice? Asilo Nido a Venezia?

I am moving to Venice with my son (age 2.5) and I would like to find a private daycare (asilo nido) or nursery school (scuola materna) for him. It seems like there are very few of these in Venice. Are there family-run daycares there, where one or two caregivers take care of 3 or 4 small children in their home? If so, how does one find those sorts of places?

  1. You'll be able to find that pretty easy when you get there.  Probably through coworkers.  When we lived in Sicily my parents always found good people to take care of me and my brothers.

There are lots of americans living in the area too.  Venezia is right in between Vicenza and Aviano, two huge american military bases, so if you want your child to be in an english speaking environment you can.  Although I speak fluent Italian still today because my parents put us in Italian schools, daycare etc... 13 years
