Hello,

For an assignment for my course, I have to evaluate the daycare program in which i work in. However, the question has me a little confused. It says, "what needs are met for families, using this program"

The only thing i can think of is that their children are being cared for while they are at work. However this question isnt just worth 1 mark. Can anyone else think of any other needs that are met for parents, ect.

I can see where its the children's needs being met, but as for parents?

  1. Maybe it's looking for how the daycare gives and takes feedback from the parents to provide a safe & nurturing environment for the child that promotes his or her well-being and develops his or her skills (social, emotional, physical, etc.). Or maybe it means something as specific as how the daycare handles parents' needs to change schedules or special requests. Are they flexible and accomodating to parents' needs? I hope this helps some.

  2. The parents need to that there child is safe and being taken care of.  We want our children to learn the ABC's and 123's. I pay good money for my childs daycare and demand the best. If there is a problem I want to know about it.  We want them to do activities, play. and learn.

    I hope this helps

  3. In addition to some of the other ideas in the responses you have received consider this. A good Day Care acts as a clearing house for working parents to help them learn about their community, and to learn about child development. There should be a bulletin board with announcements about community events for families and children. There should be a collection of brochures for parents on issues such as sleeping, eating, toilet training, and school readiness. There should be information on what children learn when they play in the various areas of the program. Parents need to know when it is time to register their child for kindergarten and how to do it. They need information about immunizations and other health issues. A goo program provides all this for parents to take advantage of if they wish.

  4. Many needs are met: First of all the trust parents have in the provider. Perhaps the researched this facility and felt this was the best fit for the Child and the Parent. Knowing that the child has activites that stimulate educating them, healthy snacks being fed to their children. Parents want and need for their children to be properly taken care of. This enables them to have a clear mind when they are at work. I have a child development 2 yr degree plus raising three of my own.

  5. They would be able to go to work on time or like get to wherever the need to go.

  6. The needs of parents and families can be met by by a daycare program by:

    - offering access to professional support, when required

    - opportunity to balance home and work with childcare

    - children being in daycare allows parents to be able to work and therefore access to an income to provide food, clothing and housing

    - respect from society

    - developing confidence in their parenting skills & roles

    - get to know other adults/parents/people within the setting

    - able to access information, e.g. leaflets, etc

    - parents able to talk about their children & experiences.

Hope this list is the sort of thing you are looking for.

  7. The question sounds to me like it's for the families in general and not specifically for parents.

In general, the daycare environment does these things:

    1. provides care for the child while the parent is at school/work (safe place with mental and physical stimulation and nutrition)

    2. teaches social skills to the child - interaction with others, how to relate to others, how to respond on situations

    3. teaches basic fundamental learning skills - ABC's, numbers, colors, shapes, sounds, etc. Most daycares will use different teaching techniques so the child is stimulated from a variety of sources

    4. creates a social network for the parent and the child - they can get to know other parents and children for interaction outside of the daycare environment

    5. introduces the child to a pseudo-school environment. Although daycares are much more relaxed and incorporate more play, they are also loosely based on a school environment so it's a gently introduction to what school and learning structure would be like

This is a small representation but you can build on it. I hope it's helpful. Good luck on your paper.

  8. 1.What about learning English as a second language? Many immigrant families with children learn English along with their children. The earlier the kids start learning English at Daycare and school, the the faster the parents can become accustomed to hearing and speaking it.

    2. Transportation. Many daycares have buses to pick kids up from school. This is a plus for many parents because they don't have leave work to take their kids from school to daycare or have their children walk home, etc.

    3. Safety.  Their peace of mind is important to parents because leaving the children with a neighbor or an older sibling is not always as safe as with a liscensed business that has proffessionals trained to care for kids, even for first aid and medical conditions.
