I understand that you have to have a ged or hs diploma to work in a daycare..... but what about private daycares in churches...... could that be a good possibility?

  1. I currently work at a Daycare to help pay my way through medical school! I have been working there since I was 16 and I am now 19. I didn't have a Diploma or a G.E.D when I started. But it also depends on what daycare you are trying for, if it is in a school building I believe that you do need a G.E.D or a Diploma. IF you are a lead teacher or any upper staff then yes you do,, but as far as floaters and assistants no.

  2. I am the director at a religious preschool in Virginia. Our requirements are different from a publically funded day care/preschool, but all lead teachers still have to have a GED/high school diploma or equivalent.  We have hired high school students in the past, but they are considered aides. They cannot be in charge of a room by themselves. They always have to be with another teacher. We actually try to meet all the state standards whenever we can-unless they are in conflict with the religious standards. I do not think you need the same qualifications to work in home based child-care--you could look into that.

  3. There are some places in some states that will still hire without a diploma/GED, but even so, the pay is less. You really need to get finish and then get a CDA.

  4. I run a home child care and we have to have a GED or a H.S. diploma in order to operate. Where I live the more education you have the more you can get in bonuses and grants.

  5. Yes, it's a possibility but you would be considered an aide and receive minimum wage and probably not the greatest hours...you would not be able to move up the ladder as well...and to be truthful... most ask for a minimum high school diploma or GED

See what it would take for you to get your GED, if that is the problem and there are grants out there to help you get a CDA...then  you can be considered a lead teacher at private day cares or an associate at state/federally funded day cares.  Good luck!
