  1. well, does this mainly happen in the morning? it sounds like you are out of it when you are driving. coffee could help.

try not to think about other things while driving.

  2. I don't know why you do it, but for your own safety and the safety of others, you should stay off the road until you can concentrate 100% on your driving. In the wrong hands, cars can be lethal!

  3. No matter what the commercials say about how exciting or s**y driving a vehicle is, the one thing they don't tell you is that driving is BORING...There you are - a foot on a pedal, at least one hand on the wheel, sitting in a fairly comfortable seat in a temperature controlled cabin, trying to pay attention to what the instructor is droning on about and listening to the hum of the road.

Get more involved with driving...Develop an eye sweep of the instruments, mirrors and road...Turn your head while doing it...Make sure you're well rested, maybe have a cup of coffee...If you're drowsy, don't drive...Focus on the task at hand.

    All the best.

  4. Sometimes that happens to me (SOMETIMES) but I realize it so I put both of my hands on the steering wheel (Usually I just use one cuz I get bored) and I try to pay attention to the road. Use your side view mirrors...always look at the cars behind...road signs...and look straight. Try not to get bored. That's the problem...maybe driving is just too easy.

  5. What you should do is go and see your local doctor and have them run tests to see if there is something that they can do.

  6. I will leave all the sanctimonious answers to those who think they know best, but it could be that you are now a more competent driver than you were.

I'm not absolutely certain who it was who wrote it, but I believe it may have been John Miles, who was the advanced-driving guru in the late 1960's.

He argued, quite rightly, that really good driving was when you couldn't remember a journey afterwards, because you were not having to think about it. He didn't mean that a driver shouldn't be watching, anticipating and reacting to events, but what he did mean, is that all those things should be second-nature, instinctive and automatic.

I think about zillions of things when I'm driving a very large truck, and often listen to quite complex debates on Radio 4. It just doesn't affect my ability to drive, and I have an almost faultless driving-record.

I know a man who can play the piano, and at the same time, he tells jokes or holds a conversation. I play music, and I can't do that without the music falling to pieces.

The fact is, that some people seem quite able to "multi-task" without compromising anything.

However, if your daydreaming is obviously affecting your driving ability, that should be a matter for concern. Only you will know the answer to that particular question.
