  1. Daylight Saving Time starts on the first Sunday in October and ends on the first Sunday in April.

It depends on where you live.

  2. Standard Time resumes on Sunday, November 2, 2008.

Also, next year, Daylight Saving Time begins on March 8, 2009, and ends on Sunday, November 1, 2009.

  3. Daylight savings time is not anything scientific, it is something us humans decided to do in attempt to cut back on energy use by having more sunlight in the evenings so they would not have to use incandescent bulbs.  Unfortunately with the rise of air conditioning it is having the opposite effect

  4. This whole daylight savings structure is a part of astronomical changes in the universe which has to do with the positioning if the Earth to the Sun. Daylight saving date is different every year. It has to do with the start date of the vernal and the autumnal equinoxes. Here is a link which will provide you with pictures and will explain in details what it really is......

  5. Hi Alicia,

In much of the temperate zones of the world, we turn our clocks ahead in the spring to gain an extra hour of daylight in the evenings.  By March in the Northern Hemisphere (September in the Southern), the time of sunrise is getting earlier and earlier, toward 6 a.m.  The majority of people get up later than 6 a.m., so it makes sense to borrow this hour of daylight from the morning, when most are still sleeping, and place it at the end of the day, so we have daylight when we get home from work.

The dates vary from place to place.  In most of North America, we turn our clocks ahead the second Sunday of March, and return to Standard Time the first Sunday of November.

In Europe, they start Daylight Saving Time on the last Sunday of March, three weeks later (sometimes two weeks later, depending on the calendar) than the United States.  They also end a week earlier, the last Sunday of October rather than first Sunday of November.

Mexico starts Daylight Time the first Sunday of April.

Other countries in north Africa and Asia use different dates.

In the Southern Hemisphere the order is reversed.  In most of Australia, Daylight Time starts on the first Sunday of October and ends the first Sunday in April.  Western Australia has a different start date, however, the last Sunday of October, and ends the last Sunday of March.

New Zealand starts the last Sunday of September, but ends the same time as eastern Australia, the first Sunday of April.

The different Southern Hemisphere countries start and end on different dates, varying from place to place.

One additional note.  In the Moslem world, where the faithful fast during the holy month of Ramadan, everybody wants the day to end as early as possible.  Daylight Saving Time in Islamic countries usually ends before the start of Ramadan.

This year, Ramadan starts around September 1st.  In Egypt, which goes to Daylight Time in spring, the clocks go back this Friday, August 29, to ease the burden for those fasting.

  6. As of 2007, DST starts the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November.
