Dayron Robles and David Oliver to feature in the DN Galan Samsung Diamond League – Athletics news
With the DN Galan Samsung Diamond League just two weeks away, two formidable high hurdlers, Dayron Robles and David Oliver, have ensured to become a part of the meet. The DN Galan race, which is to commence on Friday, July 29, is the eleventh leg of the
Samsung Diamond League of the season.
The 24-year-old Cuban, Robles, was the star of the 2006 World Indoor Championships, where he finished at the top of the podium in a 60m hurdles competition. That very year, which had brought him recognition on the world athletics arena, observed him moving
up in his ranking, as he improved his personal best to an impressive 13 seconds, which, expectedly, resulted in him becoming champion of the Central American and Caribbean Games.
The following year, the strenuous runner was even better on the track as he not only improved his personal best to 12.92 seconds, but also bagged the 2007 IAAF World Athletics Final. The time clocked at the prestigious event culminated in placing Robles
as the joint fourth fastest in the history of the discipline. Presently, for clocking 12.87 seconds, he is a world record holder of the discipline.
Oliver, on the other hand, is a hurdler from America who specialises in 60m and 110m hurdle events. Oliver claimed the limelight back in 2008, when he ended third on the podium at the 2008 Olympic Games at Beijing. Soon after the Olympic win, he sustained
his third position at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Currently, the 29-year-old holds the American record in 110m hurdles for marking an impressive finish of 12.89 seconds. Moreover, he has been a US champion on four occasions.
Commenting upon the news about the duo encountering each other for the title of the race, Rajne Soderberg, director of the meeting said, “This is a gem in an already star-packed competition. Robles set the stadium record in 2008 with 12.91 and missed the
world record by three hundred of a second. Oliver is eager to leave Stockholm with a record and a 1 carat diamond.”
It is interesting to note that each athlete who marks a stadium record at the DN Galan race will be rewarded with a one carat diamond besides other prizes.
