Dayron Robles overcomes gushing winds in Reims - Athletics news
Emerging against the gushing winds in Reims was rather difficult for the participants of Meeting International Reims-Champagne-Ardenne. However, undeterred by the winds, Dayron Robles, the 24-year old track and field athlete and a specialist in the 110m hurdles, amid his strenuous strides, managed to prevail against nature and a robust field in the fourth leg of the French Pro Athle Tour.
Robles, the young stellar performer from Cuba marked his first dominance at the 2006 World Indoor Championships, where he earned a silver medal in the 60m hurdles contest. As the year 2006 lingered on, his perseverance in putting in toiling efforts paid the dividends and while appearing on the track of the Central American and Caribbean Games, he eventually made to stop the clock in 13 seconds. The results marked his personal best at the outdoors.
For always believing in raising the bar of his performance, the year 2007 witnessed him bagging a gold medal at the Pan American tournament, where he also improved his finishing time by 0.08 seconds and hit the finishing line in 12.92 seconds. Expectedly, the results culminated in placing him the winner of the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships as the joint fourth fastest ever.
Robles, who holds the world record in 110m hurdles for a stunning finish of 12.87 seconds, was back to Reims after about a year and the last time he appeared on the track, all that he could do was to finish-off his race in 13.09 seconds.
However, having dwelled upon the reasons of a bad finish last year, the winner of the 2008 Golden Spike Ostrava meet decided to embark upon the track on his rivals right from the start. Perhaps it was the result of a planned take-off that despite of the difficult weather conditions and a challenging field, he managed to hit the line well before his competitors.
Though the results produced by Robles this year could not outdo those marked in the previous year, but a 13.14 seconds finish was good enough to help him claim the title of the event.
