Dayton Flyers down Alabama Crimson Tide 74-62 - NCAA Basketball Recap
After two massive defeats last week at the hands of Buffalo Bulls and Murray State Racers, Dayton Flyers came back strong tonight and knocked over Alabama Crimson Tide 74-62.
It was a thoroughly professional performance by the Flyers; all the players played their role to perfection. Except for a few blunders in the defence midway through the second frame that allowed Tide to come back in the game, Flyers
looked solid and dominated the proceedings throughout.
Flyers were accurate and aggressive and shot 10 for 19 from the three-point range and 8 for 11 from the free throw line.
Chris Johnson marshalled Dayton with game high 20 points on a near perfect shooting, knocking down 8 for 9 from the paint and 3 for 4 from the downtown. Josh Parker, who came off the bench late, was also impressive and added 17,
while Kevin Dillard, close to a triple-double pounded 14, pulled down 8 rebounds and dished out 6 assists.
Tony Mitchell was the star performer for Tide and paced them with 18 points on 7 for 14 from the two point range. Trevor Releford chipped in with 13 whereas JaMychal Green contributed 12.
Green started the proceedings for the Tide. He fuelled a 6-4 opening run to provide an early edge for his team. However the 2 point lead was only short lived as Flyers responded with an 11-3 spurt to get ahead 15-9 midway through
the frame.
Josh, Dillard and Johnson continued the attack from Flyers until the end of the frame, while on the other hand, except for Mitchell and Nick Jacobs, no one else managed to find the baskets on regular basis and the Flyers managed
to maintain a double digit lead 38-27 by the end of first half.
Back to back three pointers by Johnson and Paul Williams in the first two minutes of second frame pushed the game further away from Tide as the lead now swelled to 17 points 44-27.
Parker and Johnson kept the lead intact by scoring quickly over next few minutes and the game was quickly drifting away from Tide. With 11 minutes to go and Tide trailing behind 56-40, they finally got some momentum and reeled
off a critical 13-1 run to get themselves back in the game.
However, unfortunately for them, Dillard and Johnson in partnership again initiated a 17-9 run in the final few minutes to seal the game for Flyers.
