Question:

Daytrana Patch for ADHD?

I just started my 5 year old son on Daytrana this morning. We have had a horrible time getting him to swallow a capsule or even opening it up an mixing it with food. He eventually learned to look before eating. I even sent it to school for the nurse to give him...with no luck! Even his principal and speech teacher tried ,again with no luck! They tried everything from giving him candy and toys if he took it to sitting out at recess for just 4 holding it in his mouth for 20 minutes then spitting it out. Nothing has worked! So I took him to his pediatrician yesterday just to be told I am not hard enough on him that I should hold him down and force him to take it! Well needless to say that is a fight I would rather not have with him daily plus having him hate me on top of that! So his nurse had earlier spoke with me about the patch and I told him I would like to give it a try......so here we are. Day 1- not very noticeable but maybe after a week we will see. Anyone with a similar problem?

  1. My son whom is fourteen and has ADHD had tried Adderal and Concerta without any sucess.  Then he tried the Daytrana patch and did excellent on it.  There was a problem: After being on it for one month (a wonderful month) it got recalled...all of it.  They said it was because children could not get the patch off.  I could not find it at any pharmacy that month, so his psychiatrist had to switch him to another med.  They tried him on a higher dose of Concerta and that did not work either, so now they are trying a different group of meds.  The Daytrana worked well with him after a couple days.  It was excellent.  As for any child with ADHD, he needs to learn coping skills and how to deal with his disorder.  He needs to be in therapy with a child specialist.  If he is not already, then I suggest you find him one.

  2. My older sister used to use this, and it worked great!  By the 2nd or 3rd day, it really worked!  She got iritated by it tho, and had to stop using it!  But it is a miracle patch as me, my brothers, and my other sister call it :]

  3. it usually takes a few days for new meds to work, id give it a week or so and see what happens.  My son was on concerta and had bad reactons now were on adderrall and it took a few days to see results so just be patient and hang in there.

  4. The Daytrana patch is amazing. Wait about a week. I'm surprised you didn't notice much already.
