The Amsterdammers suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s men in their final UEFA Champions League game, and the Dutch trainer was outraged at his troops below par showings at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.
Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, was extremely furious at his side’s poor showings on the pitch in their final Group D game of UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid.
Los Blancos cruised to a resounding 4-1 victory against the Amsterdammers at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, December 4. The Madrid giants grabbed a lead within the opening 13 minutes of the game through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629, while Callejon doubled his side’s advantage in the 28th minute.
And the Dutch mentor revealed that he was enraged at his troops’ below par performance in the opening 45 minutes.
“I was very, very mad at half time. In these kind of matches you have to exceed your normal level. In my opinion there were nine players that were under their normal level. Only [Danny] Hoesen and [Kenneth] Vermeer were okay. If it's 2-0 at half-time you can consider us lucky”, De Boer was quoted as saying to the media representatives in the post-match press conference.
La Liga champions continued to assert their authority after the half-time break, and managed to extend their lead further only four minutes after the restart through Kaka.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Derk-Boerrigter-c10972 managed to hit the back of the net in the 59th minute, but it was not enough for the visiting side, as Callejon netted his second of the evening moments before the full time whistle to seal an impressive 4-1 victory at the end.
“After half-time we played with more courage. I'm glad we scored, but maybe we could have scored one more”, De Boer added.
In spite of losing the game, Ajax finished third in the Group D, as Manchester City also suffered a 1-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund.
And the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 player has admitted that they must be proud of their third place finish in such a tough group, while insisting that many would not have considered his side would be participating in Europa League after the winter break.
“We can be proud of what we did. Becoming third in this group is a great effort by our team. A lot of people wouldn't have expected this, so that's worth a compliment. To become better, we have to play more matches at this level”, De Boer concluded.
