Question:

De Broglie's contribution to physics?

Did Broglie actually do anything other than his theory of electron waves and the wave-particle duality theory? Since that's basically what he was talking about in the de Broglie hypothesis.. yeah..

Anyway, is that all he did? Did he make any other major contributions to the world of Physics? Thanks!

  1. We got the de Broglie wavelength equation

    l=h/p = h/mv

    That was part of his duality theory though. It's strange you ask is that ALL he did, it's still a major contribution to physics.

    It was important as it led to things such as neutral atom eqautions, Frensel diffraction and Zeno effect. All in all, a pretty good discovery!

    There's also a microscope names after him, Atomic de Broglie microscope, also known as atomic nanoscope. You might want to look that up!

  2. Go wiki him.  It appears that no, he didn't do too much else.  But his work was a major stepping stone for Schrodinger, and merited a Nobel Prize.  So if he wanted to spend the rest of his life resting on his laurels, teaching, philosophizing, and writing for the wider public, that's cool.  Not everybody makes significant contributions all over the place as did Einstein.

  3. He didn't do anything else of major importance.
