The 23-year-old has expressed his desire to become Dutch champions for the third successive time, but has admitted that it will not be an easy task to replicate last season’s performance.
Ajax Amsterdam midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Siem-de-Jong-c33482, is hoping that his side could replicate last term’s performance in the second-half of the ongoing 2012/13 season to lift the Eredivisie title for the third successive time.
The Amsterdammers are currently sitting third in the league standings, three points behind the table-toppers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven.
And the versatile midfielder is hopeful that 2013 becomes a year to remember for him and his teammates.
“I hope that 2013 is a great year for us. We are aiming to win silverware come the end of the season. The Eredivisie title is of course my preference”, De Jong said while talking to the media.
De Joden were in no contention of lifting the title halfway through the 2011/12 campaign, but an impressive 14 games unbeaten run put them in the race for the championship, and some sloppy showings at the top from PSV Eindhoven and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam ensured
that the Amsterdammers become Dutch champions at the end of the season.
And De Jong has urged his teammates to replicate their last season’s performance in 2013 if they are to defend their title successfully.
“It is important that we claim consistent results in the second-half of the ongoing season just like we did last term. It is not going to be easy, but we have to do it”, the 23-year-old added.
The Amsterdam giants are currently competing at three fronts, Eredivisie, UEFA Europa League and KNVB beker Cup, and the Dutch international has admitted that his side has a golden opportunity to win at least two prizes.
“We are competing at three fronts. Therefore, there is enough for us to win. Hopefully, I can add value to my team, and help the club win silverware come the end of the 2012/13 campaign”, De Jong concluded.
Ajax will resume the league action when they take on their fierce rivals, Feyenoord Rotterdam, at Amsterdam Arena on Sunday, January 20.
