De Kock’s future targets in the Dubai World Cup Carnival 2012 after winning the Al Rashidiya and the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1
One of the luckiest trainers in the Dubai World Cup Carnival 2012, besides the two Godolphin trainers, is De Kock, who first won the Al Rashidiya Trial, presented by Longines, with the 11 to 8 favourite of the race, Mahbooba, on 5th January
at Meydan, and did not take very long to win the Group 3 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1, sponsored by Etisalat.
Even his second entry, Master Of Hounds, who was the runner up in the race, turned in a very impressive performance. His previous trainer was A P O’Brien.
Back to back successes for De Kock in the course of just a few days have inspired him to plan ahead wisely for the rest of the important races that will follow soon in the Carnival.
His hunger for victory does not stop here as he has already thought of using his valuable assets for the forth coming races.
De Kock said:
"Obviously we are delighted with that and Musir is a much stronger horse than he was in his Classic year and again from last year. I do still feel that turf is his best surface and the Dubai Duty Free is his main target”.
"He will probably run in the next two rounds of the Maktoum Challenge with the World Cup itself as his target. We have Bold Silvano as well to run in one or other Maktoum Challenge races so we will play it by ear”.
The Zabeel Mile or the Jebel Hatta on Super Sunday seem to be adequate racing options for Musir, who has already won the UAE 2,000 Guineas Trial, along with the Derby in 2010.
He has now proved himself further by taking away the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 on 12th January, 2012.
De Kock’s expectations from the runner up of the Challenge are not less, as he plans to race Master Of Hounds in the next two rounds of the Al Maktoum Challenge.
Knowing about the potential and ability of his own horses is good for De Kock, however, he should also bear in mind that there are many other ambitious trainers out there like Mahmood Al Zarooni, Saeed bin Suroor and A Al Raihe, bound to give him serious
competition.
