De La Hoya thanks Manny Pacquiao for showing willingness to fight Floyd Mayweather – Boxing news
The Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya, who is the founder of Golden Boy Promotions, has thanked Manny Pacquiao for showing his interest in setting up a super-fight with the undefeated American legend, Floyd Mayweather, who is a five-division world champion and
the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion.
The 34-year-old American Superstar has plans to fight on May 5, 2012 and his camp hinted that this time they want to take on Pacquiao.
Pacquiao on the same note has also shown interest in setting up a dream-fight. Therefore, De La Hoya, who defeated 17 world champions and won 10 world titles in six different weight classes, is excited.
“Let’s give thanks to Manny Pacquiao for having a press conference wanting the Mayweather fight,” said Oscar De La Hoya through his twitter this morning. “It’s about time Manny Pacquiao demands the fight to Bob Arum.”
Pacquiao recently secured a controversial 12-round majority decision over Juan Manuel Marquez in their trilogy bout at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Thus Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, wants to set up a fourth bout between his man and the Mexican
Dinamita.
However, De La Hoya believes under the current circumstances, it will not be easy for Arum to neglect Mayweather.
“Bob Arum is under a lot of pressure from Pacquiao,” continued De La Hoya. “Apparently he did an interview in Philippines saying he wants Mayweather next. Looks like Pacquiao finally spoke for himself. Apparently he wants Mayweather next.”
The 32-year-old Filipino star, who is an eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation World Welterweight Champion (Super Champion), has always stayed away from Mayweather due to their dispute over blood-testing because Pacquiao
thinks giving away blood so close to the fight can affect his stamina.
Nevertheless, now it looks like as if one of the most eagerly awaited bouts between the pound-for-pound kings, Pacquiao and Mayweather, is going to be made and if this bout happens, it will certainly break all the grossing records in the recent history of
the sport. So let’s hope people finally get to see what they have been desperately waiting for.
