De La Salle High boys volleyball team defeats Deer Valley in North Coast Section Division I final
De La Salle High boys volleyball team was able to secure itself the champions title of the North Coast Section Division I on Saturday. The team that the Spartans overcame was Deer Valley in four long and exciting sets.
Despite the fact that they lost the match, the Wolverines did not go down without putting up a fight. They were able to bag themselves the first set after a hard struggle and give the Spartans tough competition in the fourth one. However, the effort of the
Wolverines was not enough to destabilize the Spartans in their stride towards victory.
By the time that the Spartans had started celebrating their well deserved win over the Wolverines by cheering along loudly with their fans as Deer Valley was making its way out of the court with heads hung low, the score board cut the story short by displaying
the following final set scores: 24-26, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-23.
With their recent win, the Spartans are now able to boast of an astounding number of 42 wins in this season so far. These victories have been bagged at an impressively low cost of incurring losses that total to be four in all. In contrast to the performance
statistics of the Spartans, the overall season record of the Wolverines falls pale. The number of times that they have been able to bag themselves a win equal to be 39. These victories have been attained against suffering defeats that are four in this overall
season.
The first set of the game saw both the Spartans as well as the Wolverines contest each other intensely in order to take the early advantage. As both the teams were playing at their best, the opening set went back and forth for the most part. No one was sure
where the tables would turn until the Spartans were able to get themselves a lead.
However, the Wolverines pushed ahead and took the lead from the Spartans before long. Once they had the lead, the Wolverines did not let it go till they had bagged the first set of the game at 26-24.
After the loss of the first set of the game, the Spartans rejuvenated and bounced back with winning the next three sets at 25-19, 25-15 and 25-23 respectively.
At the end of the match, Deer Valley Coach Lou Panzella made the following comments about the effort his team had put in, “In the first few games it was the same thing, we fell behind right away. I'm proud of our guys because we kept battling back, but them
getting off to fast starts was huge. It's hard to come back against a team as good as De La Salle.”
