De Villiers not writing England off – Cricket News Update
South Africa’s ODI skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 is expecting England to make a strong comeback from the 80-run defeat in Southampton, as the two sides gear up for the third One Day International of the five-match series, commencing at the Kia
Oval on Friday, August 31, 2012.
The Proteas toppled the Three http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 as world’s best ODI side with a comprehensive 80-run victory last week, and will retain the top ODI spot if they manage to win five-match series, which they currently lead 1-0, with three games to go.
While speaking to media reporters on the eve of the third ODI, the Proteas wicketkeeper batsman said that the English players were at their best on Tuesday, adding that they expect a backlash from the home side in the next couple of games.
“England did not play at their best in Southampton but we know exactly what they are capable of doing and we fully expect a backlash in London, both at the Oval and at Lord's,” said de Villiers, who was on Thursday named in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test
Team of the Year as 12th man.
Considering South Africa’s impressive form since the start of ongoing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 itinerary, it is being anticipated that the tourists would clinch the series quite comfortably. But the Proteas skipper has warned his side against complacency,
insisting the Poms are a fighting side who can turn the tables on opposition at any stage in a series.
“We’ll need to be better than we were on Tuesday. We won well, but we must always strive to improve,” he added further.
Meanwhile left-arm spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Peterson-c2332 has lavished praise on the 28-year-old Pretoria-born gloveman, saying the team enjoys his aggressive captaincy in one-day cricket.
“http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 is quite laid back as captain, he's growing and learning, but he's got quite an attacking mind set which is nice. He doesn't mind us going for the odd boundary in search of wickets,” said Peterson. "He's quite adventurous so we enjoy
his captaincy in one-day cricket," he added further.
The opening ODI at Cardiff was abandoned only after 5.3 overs due to persistent rain.
