De Vos creates upset as Winstanley cruises into second round
The BDO Championship started well for the Belgian, Geert De Vos, as well as the English darts player, Dean Winstanley. Both of them secured victories in their respective opening encounters and have subsequently cruised into the proceeding rounds of the event.
The new entry in the regime of darts was able to open his campaign after creating an upset at Frimley Green, after defeating Tony West by 3-1. The Belgian amateur provided no single opportunity to his opponent to capitalise on.
Starting his game with a 15-darter, he was found to be following an extremely aggressive strategy throughout the game, completely dismantling his West in almost all categories.
Tony decided to make a comeback but it proved more or less futile, despite the fact that he was able to level scores.
De Von, continuing his furious wave, bounced back into play by grabbing all major points in the third set of the game.
With the finish at 99, accompanied with two consecutive double tops, he was finally able to take the game in his favour, clinching a double 10.
In another start, victory met Winstanley after he was able to defeat Joey ten Berge. Being the finalist last year, it was important for Winstanley to reinstate his position at the BDO.
He was able to do that quite conveniently, with a 3-1 victory against the Dutchman, Joey ten Berge.
Like De Von, Winstanley was able to able to grab his victory with a double 10 in the concluding phase of the game.
He also tried to maintain and adhere to an aggressive play with the help of a 15-darter in the initial stages to keep his opponent under pressure.
It is also important to mention here that the ‘over the top’ Winstanley was nominated in the Grand Slam of Darts with top notch players of the sport, which included Ted Hankey, Ian White and Barney.
Apart from this, Alan Norris was also able to reserve his position on the oche after defeating Benito van de Pas 3-2.
On the other hand, in the women’s event, Anastasia Dobromyslova was able to book her seat in the finale of the event after defeating Julie Gore, 2-0.
