De la Rosa upbeat at getting a break in the season by missing the Mugello test – Formula 1 news
Pedro de la Rosa thinks Hispania Racing Team’s break will benefit the team before the Spanish Grand Prix.
HRT announced that it will not be taking a part in the coming Mugello test in order to focus on the updates ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.
De la Rosa believes that the break will be blessing in disguise for the team. The team suffered quite a few blows prior to the season opening as the their car failed crash tests twice before passing prior to season opening Australian Grand Prix.
Since the team has looked to be the weakest on the grid clearly showing lack of testing as a major issue for the team.
De la Rosa feels that the break will give the team time to regroup and focus at the job at hand and improve the areas of the car that need updating.
He emphasised that the car needs a lot of development and spending more time in the wind tunnel to optimise the set-up is going to be very crucial. He stated that the races so far have been like pre-season tests for the team as it tries to find the right
balance of the car. He admitted that the team is three months behind everyone else and paying the price for it.
He did not lose heart and still has hopes that the European leg of the season will bring better results for the team.
He said, “I think we have a solid structure underneath us now, and the result in Bahrain was an unexpected bonus because nobody was expecting us to out qualify a Marussia or finish races like in Malaysia. I am looking forward to the rest of the season, because
we have more time to develop what is a solid platform. We have to improve, but we have the people and the factory now. There is stability that we didn't have a few months ago - or even a few weeks ago. It is a new start - now we can say we are starting properly.”
It will be interesting to see how much improvement HRT can bring with the new upgrades.
