DeJon Watson withdraws from Baltimore Orioles’ GM list – MLB News
Since the St. Louis Cardinals has overthrown the Texas Rangers 4-3 to crown the title of World Series Champions last week, the Major League Baseball circle has seen a excitement in almost each team.
Every club is looking to get ready for the 2012 season and among them is the Baltimore Orioles, the club with the least number of wins in the 2011 season, which is looking to assemble a winning combination. However, before moving towards the players, the
team management is searching for a competent manager after firing Syd Thrift.
Orioles had an eye on Los Angeles Dodgers’ assistant GM DeJon Watson, but now the reports are that the possible candidate has declined to be considered for the position. According to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, DeJon has changed
his mind and will now remain a part of the Dodgers for one more year. DeJon has been a part of the club since 2007 as a head of the player-development system.
However, the actual reasons behind his withdrawal are still not known. According to a major newspaper in Los Angeles, when trying to contact DeJon to find out the exact reason of his pulling out, Watson did not make any statement and refused to talk about
his situation.
Baltimore Orioles also contacted the Toronto Blue Jays’ assistant general manager Tony LaCava but he turned the offer down. The club then moved their interest towards Watson, who now has also declined. Now the baseball circles have started heating up with
the question “why both candidates refused to join the Orioles?”
After playing one of their worst seasons, the Orioles fired their general manager Syd as an immediate reaction. The Orioles had an instant option of Watson but they did not restrict themselves to only a single member instead they expanded their circle of
candidates. Dodgers has given the Orioles time to have a discussion with Watson, which is now about to expire.
It was expected that the Orioles will interview Watson on Sunday, but the sudden news has turned down all the hopes of those that were curious about the situation. Watson flew last week to be interviewed for the second time in less than a year. He was also
interviewed last year by the Arizona Diamondbacks for the GM vacancy, but was not successful.
