DeJuan Blair expecting to be traded away by the San Antonio Spurs – NBA News
The San Antonio Spurs have a history of making smart draft choices and trade picks which has allowed them to remain competitive and relevant in the NBA for the past 13 years.
Except for the Los Angeles Lakers, no other club in the NBA can boast a feat like that. DeJuan Blair was one such draft pick made by the Spurs in the 2009 NBA draft. Blair went on to become a great role player and bench asset for
the Spurs. This past season, he averaged a career high 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in the 21.3 minutes he played per game on average. The reserve big shot a remarkable 53.4% from the field. However, by the end of the season, Blair was out of the team rotation.
Now, Blair is expecting to be traded by the Spurs as they have a list of big men to cover the spot and could use him to land a player that would make the team stronger.
Talking to Express-News, Blair recently said:
“I’m trying to get down to 260 (pounds), and it’s working. I’ll be great by September. I know I’m on the trading block, so we’ll see what happens. I love the Spurs, but they’ve got a lot of ‘bigs,’ and they’re bringing somebody
else from overseas, so where am I going to fall at? I was out of the rotation at the end of the season, so imagine next year. That’s something I really don’t want to go through again, because it tore me down.”
Blair should expect to get a lot of interest from teams in the NBA. He has a good four years of Greg Popovich coaching under his belt and is a good role player. The Spurs will try to find a good deal for themselves in any trade
involving Blair and hence, it could take some time before Blair is traded.
However, it is almost certain that he will not be wearing a Spurs uniform next season. Blair is yet to disclose any preference for future teams and will see his options before he makes any decision.
