DeJuan Blair says he wants to remain in San Antonio, but is being shopped – NBA News
DeJuan Blair was one of the very good finds the San Antonio Spurs have a habit of making at the NBA drafts. He was drafted in the second round by the Spurs a couple of years ago after teams passed on him because he had no ACLs
left in his knees.
And it proved to be the right decision as Blair started 62 games for the Spurs last season and averaged 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, a pretty good average for a role player.
Blair was part of the Select team that scrimmaged with team U.S.A during a training camp in Las Vegas, ahead of their departure for the London Olympics. However, Blair did not play too much in the playoffs and the San Antonio Spurs
eventually lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
And now, he is being shopped around by the Spurs as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.
Blair talked with the Post-Gazette and said that he would love to play for the Spurs, but understands that it is not solely his decision to make.
“My game is a lot more mature compared to a lot of younger guys because of the team I’m on. They never let me mess up or make mistakes. It’s been a great experience. I would love to spend the rest of my career there, but like I
keep saying, it’s a business. Hopefully, I stay a Spur, but if it doesn’t happen, life moves on. They’ve got me on the trade market and they’ll do the best to get me in the greatest situation possible,” said Blair
Blair would be a welcome addition to the front court of any team, and has the talent and skills to be a legitimate starter. The nature of his medical situation however prevents him from being so.
He is however still a valuable player off the bench, coming into the game in the first rotation. In a league devoid of quality big men, he is one with a lot of motivation and is also inexpensive.
At the moment, the future of this talented forward in unclear. But after the kind of seasons he has had with the Spurs, and his selection for the Select team this year, Blair should not be on the market much longer if the Spurs
do decide to part ways with him.
