DeMar DeRozan apologises for behaviour in a Drew League game – NBA Update
DeMar DeRozan did not cover himself in glory last time out in the Drew League and the player has now apologized for his behaviour. DeMar took to social networking website to post his apology.
“I want to apologize for my actions at the Drew League today. I got caught up in the heat of the moment, but should’ve handled it better,”
DeMar reacted badly to losing a game in the summer league that has put his team out of the competition. The player was called for a charge late in the game, just 5 seconds left on the clock. After his side ended up on the wrong
side of the finishing line, DeRozan took his frustrations out on the referee.
The Los Angeles Clippers star allegedly screamed at the official and reports say he threw his jersey at him. The behaviour was certainly unbecoming of a professional player especially in a summer league game. It is good to see
therefore the DeRozan has apologized for his act of aggression.
He is a still a far cry from other NBA stars who have made a mockery of themselves during this offseason. First to make headlines for the wrong reasons was Minnesota Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley.
Beasley does not enjoy a good reputation and the player has been hit with drug related charges in the past. During a game at New York’s famed Rucker Park, Beasley got into a jarring match with a fan. Things got heated and in the
end the Timberwolves man grabbed and pushed the fan in the game.
It was a shame as the atmosphere at Rucker Park had been electric in a previous game when another NBA star, Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, dropped 66 points and won the fans over.
The worst so far however has been the behaviour of Los Angele Lakers Matt Barnes. Barnes has only just come back from injury and is looking to improve his fitness by playing offseason games. The player is another one notorious
for bad behaviour. He slapped a coach in a summer league game last season and even topped that this time around.
According to various reports, during a San Francisco pro-am game, Barnes actually hit an opposing player. It was all over twitter the following day. Barnes is not believed to have just pushed or slapped the guy, he punched him
no holds bar style.
These events are continuing a negative trend from NBA players in the offseason and are certainly not the kind of publicity the league wants during a lockout, perceived by many to be based on greed.
